Group wants Homestake tailings pile removed to accelerate cleanup

MILAN — Cleanup of contaminated groundwater from two tailings piles at Homestake Mining Co.’s uranium mill is taking too long to suit a local community group, which wants the large tailings pile removed and an enhanced reverse osmosis system implemented to speed the remediation process which has been ongoing since 1977.
